A Letter to Parents

Type :Articles

Dear Parents,

I’m sure we can all agree that children are our most precious resource.  They are our hope, promise and collective future.  As a result we all have a moral duty and obligation to protect them at any cost.

Today we live in a world where technology is interwoven into every aspect of our lives.  The internet and other technological advancements have for the most part brought tremendous value to society.  Unfortunately, there have also been negative consequences; one of those negative consequences is cyber bullying.

Cyber bullying is a major problem that can lead to poor performance at school, depression, low self-esteem and even suicide. Cyber bullying can be presented in many different forms and this practice on all levels must be stopped.  To that end, work in the state legislature has begun to advance a bill that will address cyber bullying.  The effectiveness of this legislation will ultimately be reflected by the input provided by you as parents and your children.

As your State Representative, I will work tirelessly with each of you, our public educators and my colleagues to address the growing concern of cyber bullying. I encourage you to contact my office to share your concerns, experiences and ideas.  The time is now to address this serious matter and I welcome your immediate input.

I look forward to speaking to you as we work to positively influence and encourage the constructive use of technology so that all children can lead healthy, happy and productive lives.

Sincerely,

Paul McMurtry
State Representative
